Coach

A life-long runner, I love sharing the sport with my athletes as a running coach. I prepare people for wide-ranging running adventures with personalized training plans and one-on-one consultations.

ATHLETES AND EVENTS

I work with a variety of individuals, from middle schoolers to master’s athletes, who want to run and/or race on roads, trails, and track. I have experience coaching athletes in a wide range of long-distance events, including the mile, 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon, 50k, 50 mile, 100k, 100 mile, cross country, and road/trail relays. I also specialize in post-injury comebacks, cross-training, mental preparation, and supporting eating disorder recovery. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced runner, we can work together to chase your goals.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in an individualized, evidence-based approach that’s tailored to both your training experience and lifestyle. Proper application of purposeful work and well-timed recovery results in success—and, in my book, success hinges on happiness and health. I’ll help you build a solid foundation for your running adventures, with an emphasis on consistency and race- or goal-specific workouts.

Coaching is an art and a science. As a practitioner of this craft, I always seek additional education, including recent research and discussion of pertinent topics with peers and clients, while staying grounded in a tried-and-true approach. As a coaching mentor and local running club leader, I nurture deep roots in the running community—crucial for staying current on the sport, industry, and relevant issues.

EXPERIENCE

Since I started coaching in 2002, I’ve worked with a wide range of athletes and abilities. I began coaching high school cross country and track and field teams in and around Portland, Oregon, including Franklin High School.

I then dedicated more than two years in various capacities to coaching at the Division I collegiate level, working with Oregon State University and Syracuse University cross country and track teams. At Oregon State, I was an assistant coach for the women’s roster in one of the country’s most competitive conferences. At Syracuse, I assisted the women’s team and was the cross country meet director, planning the Big East Conference Cross Country Championships, among other meets.

I have extensive experience directing and coaching at running camps, including Melody Fairchild Running Camp and Steens Mountain High Altitude Running Camp, which offer in-depth youth and high school coaching as well as unique learning opportunities for coaches.

I’m an assistant cross country and track coach at Garfield High School in Seattle.

All along the way, I’ve coached and mentored adults for their running endeavors.
